About Eastside Ministries

What is Eastside Ministries (ESM)Jan Havins report during one of the Board meetings
Eastside Ministries of Fort Worth is a faith-based voluntary nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that is supported by churches, organizations, businesses and Individuals. Its sole purpose, without discrimination, is to serve local needy families, the elderly, handicapped and homeless persons living in zip codes 76103, 76112, and 76120.

Why was ESM formed?
Many Eastside residents are in need of help each day. Some of those individuals go to area churches daily seeking food, clothing, and other support. In 1985, Eastside area churches from many denominations joined together to form a single nonprofit organization to address these needs.

The creation of a single service location, Eastside Ministries, for  residents who are in crisis has proven to be mutually beneficial to all  parties and is far better at providing for  the area needy than what the individual churches could do by themselves.

Who runs ESM?
The Executive Director, who reports to a Board of Trustees, is in charge of the day to day operations.  Including the director, there are only 3 paid part-time employees. The rest of the workers are community or church volunteers, community services workers, or Senior Employment Program workers.

ESM is governed by the Board of Trustees made up of representatives from member churches and organizations.  For a list of the member churches click here:

Officers of the Board are a president, vice president, treasurer, recording secretary and corresponding secretary.  The board meets monthly and votes on all urgent business matters.

How is ESM supported?
ESM operates on a very small budget and relies mostly on financial help from member churches/organizations and donations from individuals or businesses. Food is donated by member churches and also secured from the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Clothing is donated to ESM by member churches/organizations and community neighbors.
